Free-Flowing Friday

Welcome to the porch for a wonderful day
It's time to recite, rhyme, and play
To see how much or how very little you have to say
and let the words flow and fall where they may

p.s. MUSSSSSTARRRRRRRRRD

Here's an original Solly for you today:

Conversation With A Cat

I do my share of worrying
that much is certainly true
but really more than that

I just love talking to you
I know you're probably fine
and you've told me not to worry
and in my attempt not to bore you
I wrote to you in a hurry
but there's something pulling me back here
something drawing me in
the nagging voice in my head
that wants to talk to you yet again
now you're looking at my title
and so far there's no mention of a cat
well, here's where I explain what happened
and exactly where I was at
I was sitting at the table
eating cereal for supper
looking for answers in my bowl
and not finding much of nuthin
just then I felt it
the penetrating stare
I looked over to my left
my cat was sitting there
she didn't utter a meow
a hiss or a purr
instead she looked right through me
and I could feel her every word
this cat knew all my secrets
all my ins and outs
every single fear
and every last one of my doubts
I couldn't look away
not even for a second
I tried to psyche her out
but that sure as hell wasn't helping
So I decided to give in
Hell she could already read my mind
I unlocked all the doors for her
and wondered what she would find
Well, she must not have found much
because she sighed and turned her head
as if to say "I have better things to do,
like curling up on your bed!"
"Next time I get the urge
to climb inside your head
remind me that there's nothing there
and I will drink all of your milk instead."**

A recap from last night and early morning:

Her best-known poem might be "First Fig" from A Few Figs from Thistles (first published in 1920):

First Fig
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends---
It gives a lovely light

And with that, I am off for the night!

You ladies hang in there. I am looking forward to reading your poetry tomorrow. Let's see some original work too.

You are lovely literate ladies. If other people don't get that..... their loss.

Hello ladie's.

I think I will be reading over here too when I do come to Blog believe.

I can't believe what it has turned into over there. It was once so beautiful.

I would love for you go back in there with a burning flag and bring your words back into Mayo's blog.

But.... I understand.

Good morning porch!!!!

question for you,

Why is 12 hours of talking by us (hardly talking for most of it because people work) totally the end of the world and blown up so much yet, 12 hours talking from the other people is a-ok by some.

I mean, seriosuly, i still dont get it. Just because some people didnt like what we posted meant they were abel to turn into a bully and call us out on it. because that is what it is, bullying.

So, people can post 12 hours of their own comments, their own thoughts and opinions and they are able to talk to THEIR friends but we have to suck it up and stop being ourselves just so that the others can talk their comments.

i am really sorry but that pisses me off because it is not fair and it doesnt matter if someone said it was fair, it is COMMON SENSE that it isnt fair that one group of people can say what the hell they want, yet, another group cant say dicky.

i know someone people do not like what we post, but some people may not like what they post and when someone tells them to stop posting what they post, they dont do it and why should they. no one should tell anyone what to post and what not to post.

urgh, i just dont understand anymore.

i can't see anymore
i missed every Memphis angel
because of the because clauses--
one night sleeping with two cats
Big and Little
and I am serious about these names
i had a vision reading a John Irving book
i did not want to read never persumed i would read
more than a few pages
there were hallway lights and people's voices
shivering through a downstairs window
i could not put the book down either
even though i literally wanted to put it down
sometimes--i hate that word-- i went to a meeting
nearby and i was accidentally or coincidentally on this street
so much i began to think maybe i belong here
i kissed the back of someone's hand
i kissed the hand when it turned back to me
i made sure no page was facing me when i read
and that no one would see what i saw or feel what i felt
i am on a drive where a mirror has collapsed
i want to ask someone else without sight

Darkness

I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguish'd, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;
Morn came and went—and came, and brought no day,
And men forgot their passions in the dread
Of this their desolation; and all hearts
Were chill'd into a selfish prayer for light:
And they did live by watchfires—and the thrones,
The palaces of crowned kings—the huts,
The habitations of all things which dwell,
Were burnt for beacons; cities were consum'd,
And men were gather'd round their blazing homes
To look once more into each other's face;
Happy were those who dwelt within the eye
Of the volcanos, and their mountain-torch:
A fearful hope was all the world contain'd;
Forests were set on fire—but hour by hour
They fell and faded—and the crackling trunks
Extinguish'd with a crash—and all was black.
The brows of men by the despairing light
Wore an unearthly aspect, as by fits
The flashes fell upon them; some lay down
And hid their eyes and wept; and some did rest
Their chins upon their clenched hands, and smil'd;
And others hurried to and fro, and fed
Their funeral piles with fuel, and look'd up
With mad disquietude on the dull sky,
The pall of a past world; and then again
With curses cast them down upon the dust,
And gnash'd their teeth and howl'd: the wild birds shriek'd
And, terrified, did flutter on the ground,
And flap their useless wings; the wildest brutes
Came tame and tremulous; and vipers crawl'd
And twin'd themselves among the multitude,
Hissing, but stingless—they were slain for food.
And War, which for a moment was no more,
Did glut himself again: a meal was bought
With blood, and each sate sullenly apart
Gorging himself in gloom: no love was left;
All earth was but one thought—and that was death
Immediate and inglorious; and the pang
Of famine fed upon all entrails—men
Died, and their bones were tombless as their flesh;
The meagre by the meagre were devour'd,
Even dogs assail'd their masters, all save one,
And he was faithful to a corse, and kept
The birds and beasts and famish'd men at bay,
Till hunger clung them, or the dropping dead
Lur'd their lank jaws; himself sought out no food,
But with a piteous and perpetual moan,
And a quick desolate cry, licking the hand
Which answer'd not with a caress—he died.
The crowd was famish'd by degrees; but two
Of an enormous city did survive,
And they were enemies: they met beside
The dying embers of an altar-place
Where had been heap'd a mass of holy things
For an unholy usage; they rak'd up,
And shivering scrap'd with their cold skeleton hands
The feeble ashes, and their feeble breath
Blew for a little life, and made a flame
Which was a mockery; then they lifted up
Their eyes as it grew lighter, and beheld
Each other's aspects—saw, and shriek'd, and died—
Even of their mutual hideousness they died,
Unknowing who he was upon whose brow
Famine had written Fiend. The world was void,
The populous and the powerful was a lump,
Seasonless, herbless, treeless, manless, lifeless—
A lump of death—a chaos of hard clay.
The rivers, lakes and ocean all stood still,
And nothing stirr'd within their silent depths;
Ships sailorless lay rotting on the sea,
And their masts fell down piecemeal: as they dropp'd
They slept on the abyss without a surge—
The waves were dead; the tides were in their grave,
The moon, their mistress, had expir'd before;
The winds were wither'd in the stagnant air,
And the clouds perish'd; Darkness had no need
Of aid from them—She was the Universe.

Good morning, everyone. :)

I just wanted to stop by and say that, Fim, it's great to read you! I hope you're doing okay and getting settled in and talking to that cute boy still, 'cause, *nudge*. ;)

Also, Sdock, I had some worry, not entirely overwhelming, but enough to bug me, that you weren't doing okay, like something was up. I hope everything's alright in your world.

Smoke, I hope you're well! Tell LHM hello for me!

Jules, the debate, dude. That's all I have to say. This is going to be sphincter-clenching. :)

Lucy, I tried sitting on my computer, but my arse wouldn't get in. Sorry 'bout that! ;)

MissT! I hope you're doing okay. I miss talking to you.

I miss talking to all of you. I'm going to post something I've probably posted before, but last night was rough and the words were kind of there for me, so I'ma post them here, too. And it's a song, so don't give me grief about it. ;)

SONGS ARE POETRY, TOOOOOOO! Muwhahaha.

Catch you all around sometime.

Halfway Home

I used to walk all along
The opposite side of the road,
And made others get out of my way.
I used to think
That I could just sit And wait for the times,
But they won't come until I meet them halfway.

I'm halfway home
And I'm out on my own.
I'm halfway there
And I don't care,
No, I don't mind.
I plan to leave here after supper time,
That's when traffic is light.
All I need is a sign,
And I'll be alright,
I'll be fine.

I used to think
That I could just sleep,
And then I would dream,
And everything it would come to me.
Until I woke one day without anything to eat
Lying on the opposite side of the street.

I'm halfway home
And I'm still out, still out on my own.
I'm halfway there
And I don't care,
No, I don't mind.
Because it ain't my time to stay
Or to say
I'll never lay down.

...

I'm halfway home,
I tried running with the flow.
I'm halfway there,
Ain't it funny how everybody seems to care?
I planned to get there around supper time,
They're serving up bread and wine.
All I needed was a sign
And I'll be alright,
I'll be fine.

I hate how we're always "halfway."

I hope you are better than okay. Just don't stay away too long. Just long enough, agreed?

Love ya!

And yeah, I'm alright, I think.

Thanks for singing to us this morning. I love great lyrics and those are some nice ones.

Good morning

A Reminiscence

YES, thou art gone ! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me ;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.

May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.

Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen ;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been ;

To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine, Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Have a great day all.

Hi guys! KD, FASC, anons, RW, the sisters, Fimble, Splash!

Solly, I liked your poem. Aren't cats the devil! Reading your mind like that and then glaring. ;)

SWA and nice anons, it is always good to read you.

Splash, WTF? Why do you keep coming and going? Get your ass back in this bitch!

It's really nice to read all these poems and lyrics. I've been reading the script for Quills because of something Fiero said in that interview. I was thinking of posting my thoughts on that on the S//C boards but I don't know.

I recommend Quills because it might remind you of a lot of things you can relate to, whether it be movies in pop culture, your own life, even BlogBelieve.

Shoots, I'd be quoting that like mad to Mayo if it wasn't beyond pathetic and against the rules. ;D I think he'd love it.

Be forewarned: its plot is

New CD to be released on Epitaph!

10.17.08

Hello friends,

So yes its true, as of October 2008, little old Leathermouth has signed to Epitaph records. January 2009, we will be releasing a 10 song full length compact disc.(ha so bear with us just a bit longer.) I've been completely stressed out finishing the artwork before deadlines so I apologize if my update doesn't make alot of sense...but...I just wanted to say I am very excited to have this record released and even more excited to be working with one of my favorite labels, Epitaph. Damn it feels like its been a lifetime of waiting for this record to see the light of day.. but it really is a dream come true... Every step of this journey has been a blast, from the first practice, to touring with reggie, and now seeing the artwork come to life. I apologize to everyone that has been waiting along with us but fuck man, I've been busy ...and we really wanted to make sure everything was right and now...finally, I truly feel its coming out right.

So thank you again for sticking with us and trusting that one day something would eventually hit your stereo in its face. We hope its worth the wait.

Oh, nuts; my friend was supposed to come over tonight but she has classes. (She's older than I am and a constant student as well. ♥ )

Ah, well. I am bored. But in a few months time, I will have more on my plate than I can imagine right now. I don't remember what it was like to be in school.

And, oh my gosh, going to China. I'm trying to imagine myself getting to do that. It's kind of alarmingly easy. ^_^

I'm all et up with the crazy today.

What are ya doing, anon? I'm drinking tea and eating a lemon, and I might go animate a crappy drawing I did yesterday. How about you?

Anonymous said...

I just posted that at Mayo's and was coming here to post it but you beat me Kapunua.

Hope you are all doing OK here on the porch?

Anonymous said...

I am superfly with the madd posting skillz. Also, I'm not doing much at the mo. ^_^

Yup, thank you anon, I'm chilling and looking for inspiration.

Which is madness because inspiration is everywhere. There's really no such thing as "writer's block" or "artist's block" for me because the only block I ever get is lack of ambition. I can write at any time.

It's just one of those days so I say, "I'm looking for inspiration" as an excuse to not do anything. ;D

Anonymous said...

Friends on the porch swing, silence or laughter
everything, nothing, although it
means so much more to me than only blather
for together you've made me a poet

Anonymous said...

You may have madd posting skillz Kapunua, but I suspect Fiero has been multi-tasking.

Anonymous said...

Multi tasking! Pshshss, anon, I multi-task with my effing chi. Why, right now alone I am thinking of at least two different things as well as closing the window with my mind and controlling the weather.

I think it's cool that he updates his own MySpazz and such. ^_^ I like the way he keeps in touch with his listeners like a regular dude, which he is. :)

Anonymous said...

Oh, by the way, I am not the anon at 3:26.

Anonymous said...

Fiero, that's cute, right? I don't usually like the whole name-shortening thing but I couldn't resist that one. It reminds me of a character in a book actually.

Anonymous said...

Or a Pontiac.

Anonymous said...

That's cool, anon, like I said, my brain is ever-working to figure these things out.

Not really! ^_~

Anonymous said...

Oh, shoots. I just googled that. It is a car. O_O I'm so lame. :)

Anonymous said...

That Fiero dude has some madd multi-tasking skillz, thats all I'm saying.

Anonymous said...

BWUAHAHAHA!

Anonymous said...

Damn it! How. Does. That. Happen?!

I was laughing at Jules' googling of "Pontiac," just so everyone knows.

Not laughing at you, Anonymous, but I'm glad the 'z' thing is catching on, which could be funny! :)

Anonymous said...

But can he control the weather? I DOUBT IT. ;D

Heigh ho Splash! yes, I googled Fiero, LOL, laugh it up, everyone's a comedienne! ;) It's cute, though. A little sports car.

Anonymous said...

Splash, you definitely need to get email again. >_<

Anonymous said...

Fiero reminds me of fire.

You know.

If you took out the 'o' and switched the 'r' and 'e,' you'd get "fire."

What?

You would!

Anonymous said...

Yes, yes I do, don't I? Fim's going to give me a botchslap if I don't.

Anonymous said...

It reminded me of Fiyero from Wicked. ^_^ And would be pronounced the same way, too! Elphaba would always call him "'Yero my hero" so that's how I know.

Also it sounds like the name of a centaur. But maybe I'm just thinking of Firenze from Harry Potter.

Anonymous said...

When did LM release that statement? This morning or something?

Anonymous said...

WHATCHOO GUYS DOING? ^_^

LM! YAY! LEVIATHAN! BODYSNATCHERS! MURDER! ^___^

I CAN'T WAIT!

Anonymous said...

Word on the street is that not only can he control the weather, but he has the ability to bend spoons with the power of his mind.

Anonymous said...

Like a nanosecond ago. Pretty much right before I posted it. I happened to check my email and had a notification of an update so I whizzed it over here. ^_^

*wags tail*

Anonymous said...

Word on the street is that not only can he control the weather, but he has the ability to bend spoons with the power of his mind.

Oooohhh, snap.

I bet he has that mean, really intense look on his face when he does it, too. >_<

My daddy almost bought me a Fiero once.

It's reallllly small.

Anonymous said...

Well, I can bend spoons when I dip out freezer-burned ice cream.

Not the same, but you tell Word that, 'kay? ;)

That's so cool, Jules. I didn't know how far behind I was on the information superhighway.

I have a huge, super good feeling 2009 is going to a fucking awesome year for new releases. And touring, too. I don't know why. I'm pretty psyched.

HEY, SMOKE!!! I SEE YOU'RE BACK TO YOUR MEGAPHONE WAYS!!! ;)

Anonymous said...

Spoons! yeah but only the plastic ones! ;D Let's see him try some salad tongs, then we'll talk.

Plus, I wonder how his chi would manifest, like, if life were an anime. Like in Rurouni Kenshin, when Kenshi's swordsman spirit woke up and all of the leaves started snapping? I wonder how Fiero's chi would manifest.

So guys! How does your chi manifest in the anime world? I think mine would be something a bunch of birds flying away en masse.

Wow, I am really bored. ^_^

Anonymous said...

MUSSSSTTTAARRDD!!!!! ^_^

Anonymous said...

If Life Was Anime.

Oh, wow, now my idiot brain is in overdrive. I would have supercool hair If Life Was Anime. And huge, long, striped socks.

Oh, wait!

^_^

I would fight bad guys with my wit, and with, like, a fan or something. And my transformation sequence would be really sparkly.

If Life Was Anime. ^_^

Anonymous said...

Jules,

You make me laugh. Hee-hee.

I admit, I'm lost when it comes to anime. O_O

Anonymous said...

Jules,

I caught your post at Mayo's really quick this morning. And I have to say, it's been on my mind the whole day about the D flat, nature thing.

I never thought requiems were "tributes" for the dead either, but more like a haunting snapshot of their life, you know? I'm a huge proponent of having a lot of minor shit thrown into songs at the weirdest times, and requiems tend to remind me that.

Meh, so, anyway, I thought about it all day, and I wondered why more people aren't totally consumed by music, and why they don't understand it even when they live it every day.

Plus, knowing that this world actually sings, like, literally, just makes everything so awesome and rewarding.

I don't know. I'm just really glad you shared that, because I didn't know. And once I get my email set back up, do you think, if you still have the information and research, you could send me some of that? I'd be really interested in reading it.

Anonymous said...

I don't seem to have too much luck with socks but I think I would definitely need to have an awesome custom made hat.

Definitely.

Anonymous said...

I'm glad I can make you laugh, Princess. :D One of these days when we all get rich we're going to have a party, and I will show you some anime. ;D

Okay, can I ask you a question? How do you get pictures and junk in your sidebar? I'm seriously bad at this.

Anonymous said...

Well, anon, that's fine as well. Better, even! Because you can't go around tipping your socks. In some cultures that's a mortal insult. ^_^

Anonymous said...

Niiice, Anon. :)

I think that would be perfect.

MY BOSS IS LOOKING AT ME! MAKE HER STOP!

Be back later guys! ^_^

Have a great afternoon!

Anonymous said...

Wait, what? Piccies?

You add a 'gadget' and look for the picture option. Is that what you mean?

Anonymous said...

Splash, I knew that would pique your interest. Oh my gosh, I wish I could find any of that research again. I've googled it like mad and not found a thing. It was some obscure book in a college library that is closed down now. O_O

However, whatever I can find I will definitely share with you.

There are recordings of solar wind in outer space--I've got one--and it goes on for hours just sounding like wind, and then about halfway through, out of nowhere, it sounds like a choir of spirits. It's the eeriest thing I've ever heard.

Anonymous said...

Princess, "gadget?" I will try. thank you!

Anon here and I are going to combine our chi skillz to make your boss quit looking at you. ^_^

Anonymous said...

"Hi, would you like to shake my foot?"

Bwuaha, sorry. This whole scenerio went right through the noodle.

Catch you later, Smoke!

Anonymous said...

...out of nowhere, it sounds like a choir of spirits. It's the eeriest thing I've ever heard.

Holy shit, that is the most awesome thing.

Anonymous said...

I'll look for that recording, Splash and if I can, I'll try to cut that piece and post it for you. It last about six seconds and it's chill-inducing.

You were number 69, you filthy thing! O_O

Anonymous said...

I'll try my best with my bad ass chi skillz but just so you know, I sometimes stick out my tongue when I concentrate real hard.

Its not a good look.

Anonymous said...

Ehhehm.

You were dirtier for pointing it out.

;)

Anyway, yes, that would be amazing. Who would have thought that that was even possible? And you said that, like, D flat is pitch/harmonic/whatever you want to call it for everything in nature? Everything?

Anonymous said...

Splash, that was the theory. Or at least, that's what Paul Something found got when he put all of his sound data together. I wonder if today, with all of the technology we have and that people use in music, what he might find?

Anon, have you ever seen an anime? Lots of heroes have their tongues out when they are, err, manifesting their chi and such. In fact, it's almost like a typical "hero" thing. Yeah! For sure! ^_^ So, don't be self conscious.

Anonymous said...

I gotta go. Its been great shooting the breeze but I need to get some shit done today.

You know what they say, no rest for the wicked.

Anonymous said...

Anon, with the whole tongue-out thing, as long as you're not doing like John McCain, that is. O_o

(In all honesty, as much as I can't stand the guy or his policies or his entire, urgh, ideology, I had a moment of a profound feeling of pathos for him when he got confused about which way to walk offstage that night. I hate when people feel stupid. Even if I don't like them and fundamentally disagree with everything they stand for, I get this ridiculous sympathy for people when they are embarrassed or something.

/tangent)

Anonymous said...

I wonder if today, with all of the technology we have and that people use in music, what he might find?

There's absolutely no telling.

Also, wouldn't it be cool if you could purchase bottled chi? I think it would be cool. That way you could drink it and feel all centered and stuff.

Anonymous said...

Okay, anon! Glad you could stop by. ^_^

May little silver stars follow you around. Like, in your shoe, or in your bathroom and stuff like that. :D

Anonymous said...

Bye, Anon! Make sure those little stars stay out of your bathroom!

Splash, some people just call that "tequila."

I KID, I KID! ^_^ I've never tried tequila, even. :) It would seriously depend on whose chi you were, err, sampling. O_o

Anonymous said...

Oh, and SOLLY SAYS HI! She is waving. :)

Anonymous said...

O_O

Little stars in the bathroom and tequila?

*waves to Solly*

Bye Anon!

Yes, I am still lurking about. >_<

Anonymous said...

Well, they could always take your biological makeup, make some chi, and store it, and when you were feeling chi-less, you'd just go drink it.

My mind is on overdrive today, as you may be able to tell.

I'm looking up music news and trying to follow the election coverage. Succeeding with music news, not so much with election coverage.

DJ AM, the plane crash survivor, you know? Doctors found a blood clot in his leg when he arrived at the hospital, and had they not found it, it would have gone to his heart and killed him. Adam said the "plane crash saved his life." How freakin' weird.

Also, Mike Dirnt of Green Day just had a babeh boy, whoop whoop! New record next year!

That's it.

Anonymous said...

*waves to Sdock!!!*

Anonymous said...

Wow, Splash. stories like that are intense, you know?

Anonymous said...

So Splash, you're talking about drinking your own chi.

Well, I hear that chi is fairly sterile, so.

LOL, okay, I'm cracking myself up and grossing myself out at the same time.

Anonymous said...

EWWWWWWW!

I mean, yeah, but ewwww!

Anonymous said...

What the hell should I make for dinner?

And don't say Chi!

Today is the day for awesome music news!

T.G.I.F. am I right?

As we wind down to the mixing phase of the new TBS record, I can't help but be a bit bummed that I won't be living in New York much longer. It's a bittersweet realization because on the one hand, it's freakin' NYC and it's a rad place, but the other side of it is I haven't been home more than 5 days in the last 3 months. And I miss my dog, Bubba. I DO however, get to look forward to Halloween here which has GOT to be awesome. I have a history of great halloween costumes, as select members of the band can now attest to. In fact, I'll treat you to a couple of my faves later in the post. If you have an awesome costume planned or pic of a past good one, post it!

Anyways, Adam's back home for a quick visit whilst Bano, Mark and I get a few last things done here for the rekkid and then we ship er' off to the mixer. For anyone that doesn't know what mixing entails, it's more or less a new set of ears to blend all the instruments together into a blob of rock. Then the rock blob is cranked in the volume machine after, put onto mini-laser-disc (or the internet if you're one of them tech-savvy kids) and distributed for you to enjoy :) So, in other words, soon we'll have a finished Taking Back Sunday rock blob! We are all super pumped to get out on the road and get the blood flowin' soon for peeps across this great land. We hope you're pumped too!

You know something? And this is really hard to explain, but I have so much respect for the music/artisitic community, and that respect has increased tenfold in the past year, and it has done so on a totally different level of appreciation.

I'm really glad to see these guys/gals take it upon themselves to use their platform for change. And I hope it will always be like this, and I might not have ever noticed it in the past (the 60s and early 70s aside), but I feel like this time we're in right now, I feel like everyone, everyone with a mic and listeners are doing what they can do to ignite this fire in people.

I really appreciate that, and I'm sure the rest of you do as well, that they're just telling people to get out there and vote and make a change, not necessarily in the world, but in their mind, in their community, in their little world.

I feel like everyone got lazy, or maybe that's just me, but there wasn't anything to believe in. There wasn't much to fight for, you know? And to see people whom I respect and admire for lots of different things invoke some kind of passion other than that of music/art, I just, I don't know, I think it's awesome. I'm really proud of them for doing that, not just TBS, but the countless other people who've voiced their concerns and opinions, too.

Anonymous said...

I absolutely agree. I've always said that if I were ever in any kind of situation where I had some pull, I would speak about certain issues, too. I wouldn't want to be preachy or anything, but people really listen to certain others. And I'm glad they use that to make a positive difference.

JK Rowling is awesome for that. She doesn't really get political, but you can see where she stands. And she is HUGE on women's rights, on women not being degraded, and she is huge on gay rights and acceptance, too.

I very much admire people who do that.

Anonymous said...

Also, while it's quiet, I just want to apologize to everyone not being around. I said to myself, "Self? You have to do this on your own." And I'm going to try and continue to do it on my own, work on shit upstairs on my own and stuff like that. So, that's what's up. Nothing's wrong, I just need to be away from here and start working on some things that need tweaking and reworked.

Anonymous said...

That's cool, Splash. We're here when you need us. :D

Anonymous said...

Hi Errbody! *waves*

It's the start of the weekend *does happy dance*

I just had a baked potato with melted cheese and beans! YUM! I bet it would have been even more delish with a side of chi. :D

Whatchoo all up to?

Anonymous said...

Pash, we miss you on AIM! I miss your NTP's! Bwahahhaa!

Anonymous said...

Bean! Aloha!

I am eating tomato soup with buttered bread. NUM NUM. No chi, though.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, exactly! It's really hard to explain in words, for me at least. I feel like we've all been put in a time machine and carried back to the 60s, and all of these people are saying, "Fuck it, just get out there and do something."

And I think now was the time for that to happen. There are a lot of scared people in our country right now, and a lot of them are about to vote, and a lot of them were looking for someone to guide them. Not make a decision for them, mind you, but just give them something to grab hold of so they could run with it.

And that's what I love about this.

Anonymous said...

LUCY! So great to see you!

Anonymous said...

You too Pash! Are we gonna see your arse on AIM later? It's Friday and I think we should meff it up.

Anonymous said...

Well, activism is always around, but it comes and goes, and not just every four years in Autumn. :)

One of the first bands I ever got into that was really into activism was Pearl Jam. Back in the early 90's, bands were starting to get really political again. Then, there was another Woodstock and everything. That was all in '94. These bands all of a sudden were making you aware. It wasn't about chicks and cars and being stupid anymore. They killed the carefree dinosaurs of the 80's.

That's what it feels like again, today. :)

Anonymous said...

Right! That's what I'm trying to say!

There's this new lifeblood or something, like life has been breathed back into it. I'm just really appreciative of it. :)

Anonymous said...

All alone with my shadow,
I whisper and murmur to it,
And write strange characters
In the air, like Yin Hao.
It is not sickness, nor wine
Nor sorrow for those who are gone,
Like Ch'ing-chao, that causes
A whole city of anxiety
To rise in my heart.
There is no one here I can speak to
Who can understand me.
My hopes and visions are greater
Than those of the men around me,
But the chance of our survival is too narrow.
What good is the heart of a hero
Inside my dress?
My perilous fate moves according to plan.
I ask Heaven
Did the heroines of the past
Encounter envy like this?

Anonymous said...

How many wise men and heroes
Have survived the dust and dirt of the world?
How many beautiful women have been heroines?
They were the noble and famous women generals
Ch'in Liang-yu and Shen Yun-yin.
Though tears stained their dresses
Their hearts were full of blood.
The wild strokes of their swords
Whistled like dragons and sobbed with pain.

The perfume of freedom burns in my mind
With grief for my country.
When will we ever be cleansed?
Comrades, I say to you,
Spare no effort, struggle unceasingly,
That at last peace may come to our people.
And jeweled dresses and deformed feet
Will be abandoned.
And one day, all under heaven
Will see beautiful free women,
Blooming like fields of flowers,
And bearing brilliant and noble human beings.

Anonymous said...

With a cup of wine, listening to songs of new words,
In the same pavilion tower and last year's weather.
The sun is setting in the west, but when will it return?

Nothing can be done about flowers falling away,
The swallows, seeming acquaintances, are coming back.
Along fragrant paths of the little garden I alone pace to and fro.

Like a flower, but not a flower
No one cares when it falls
And lies discarded at the roadside
But though
Unmoved, I think about
The tangle of wounded tendrils
Lovely eyes full of sleep
About to open,yet
Still in dreams, following the wind ten thousand miles
In search of love
Startled, time and again, by the oriole's cry

Do not pity the flower that flies off
Grieve for the western garden
Its fallen red already beyond mending --
Now, after morning rain
What's left?
A pond full of broken duckweed
If the three parts of spring
Two turn to dust
One to flowing water
Look --
These are not catkins
But drop after drop of parted lover's tears

Ten years living and dead have drawn apart
I do nothing to remember
But I can not forget
Your lonely grave a thousand miles away ...
Nowhere can I talk of my sorrow --
Even if we met, how would you know me
My face full of dust
My hair like snow?

In the dark of night, a dream: suddenly, I am home
You by the window
Doing your hair
I look at you and can not speak
Your face is streaked by endless tears
Year after year must they break my heart
These moonlit nights?
That low pine grave?

Anonymous said...

Very sad. Let me see if I can find a similarly themed one.

If you don't know how, why pretend?
Maybe you can fool some girls,
But you can't fool Heaven.
I dreamed you'd play with the
Locust blossom under my green jacket,
Like a eunich with a courtesan.
But lo and behold,
All you can do is mumble.
You've made me all wet and slippery,
But no matter how hard you try
Nothing happens.
So stop.
Go and make somebody else
Unsatisfied.

This is one I wrote for Mayo a few weeks ago and only tonight decided to post on my own blog, for whatever reason.

While lost at "C" is the speed of this
I don't pretend to know
and ignorance isn't really bliss;
I found out long ago

Still my words are meant to show
your shine in the abyss
I think you get it, apropos,
While lost at "C" is the speed of this

Our particle/wave has been amiss
in blackened names, and so
while I leave this lettered kiss,
I don't pretend to know

And never will find out, (although
I like to reminisce,)
and words are flames and time will show
and ignorance isn't really bliss;

To diamond-words I'd be remiss
without a word to go,
but light exists and it persists;
I found out long ago
while lost at C.

On the corner of main street
Just tryin' to keep it in line
You say you wanna move on and
You say I'm falling behind

Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

I never really gave up on
Breakin' out of this two-star town
I got the green light
I got a little fight
I'm gonna turn this thing around

Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

The good old days, the honest man;
The restless heart, the Promised Land
A subtle kiss that no one sees;
A broken wrist and a big trapeze

Oh well I don't mind, you don't mind
Cause I don't shine if you don't shine
Before you go, can you read my mind?

It’s funny how you just break down
Waitin' on some sign
I pull up to the front of your driveway
With magic soakin' my spine

Can you read my mind?
Can you read my mind?

The teenage queen, the loaded gun;
The drop dead dream, the Chosen One
A southern drawl, a world unseen;
A city wall and a trampoline

Oh well I don't mind, you don't mind
Cause I don't shine if you don't shine
Before you go
Tell me what you find when you read my mind

Slippin’ in my faith until I fall
You never returned that call
Woman, open the door, don't let it sting
I wanna breathe that fire again

She said
Oh well I don't mind, you don't mind
Cause I don't shine if you don't shine

Put your back on me
Put your back on me
Put your back on me

The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun
When you read my mind

I plucked pink blossoms from mine apple-tree
And wore them all that evening in my hair:
Then in due season when I went to see
I found no apples there.

With dangling basket all along the grass
As I had come I went the selfsame track:
My neighbours mocked me while they saw me pass
So empty-handed back.

Lilian and Lilias smiled in trudging by,
Their heaped-up basket teased me like a jeer;
Sweet-voiced they sang beneath the sunset sky,
Their mother's home was near.

Plump Gertrude passed me with her basket full,
A stronger hand than hers helped it along;
A voice talked with her through the shadows cool
More sweet to me than song.

Ah Willie, Willie, was my love less worth
Than apples with their green leaves piled above?
I counted rosiest apples on the earth
Of far less worth than love.

So once it was with me you stooped to talk
Laughing and listening in this very lane:
To think that by this way we used to walk
We shall not walk again!

I let me neighbours pass me, ones and twos
And groups; the latest said the night grew chill,
And hastened: but I loitered, while the dews
Fell fast I loitered still.

Li Po

Amidst the flowers a jug of wine,

I pour alone lacking companionship.

So raising the cup I invite the Moon,

Then turn to my shadow which makes three of us.

Because the Moon does not know how to drink,

My shadow merely follows the movement of my body.

The moon has brought the shadow to keep me company a while,

The practice of mirth should keep pace with spring.

I start a song and the moon begins to reel,

I rise and dance and the shadow moves grotesquely.

While I'm still conscious let's rejoice with one another,

After I'm drunk let each one go his way.

Let us bind ourselves for ever for passionless journeyings.

Let us swear to meet again far in the Milky Way.

In some respects
I suspect you've got a respectable side
When pushed and pulled and pressured
You seldom run and hide
But it's for someone elses benefit
Not for what you wanna do
Until I realize that you've realized
I'm gonna say these words to you

You don't know what love is
You do as you're told
Just as a child at ten might act
But you're far too old
You're not hopeless or helpless
And I hate to sound cold
But you don't know what love is...
You just do as you're told

I can see your man
Cant help but win
Any problems that may arise
But in his mind there can be no sin
If you never criticize
You just keep on repeating
All those empty "I love you's"
Until you say you deserve better
I'm gonna lay right into you

You don't know what love is
You just do as you're told
Just as a child of ten might act
But you're far too old
Your not hopeless or helpless
And I hate to sound cold
But you don't know what love is
No you don't know what love is
No you don't know what love is

You just do as you're told
You do as you're told
Yeah

Matchless in breeding and beauty,
a fine lady has taken refuge
in this forsaken valley.
She is of good family, she says,
but her fortune has withered away;
now she lives as the grass and trees.
When the heartlands fell to the rebels
her brothers were put to death;
birth and position availed nothing--
she was not even allowed
to bring home their bones for burial.
The world turns quickly against
those who have had their day--
fortune is a lamp-flame
flickering in the wind.
Her husband is a fickle fellow
who has a lovely new woman.
Even the vetch-tree is more constant,
folding its leaves every dusk,
and mandarin ducks
always sleep with their mates.
But he has eyes only
for his new woman's smile,
and his ears are deaf
to his first wife's weeping.
High in the mountains
spring water is clear as truth,
but when it reaches the lowlands
it is muddied with rumor.
Her serving-maid returns
from selling her pearls;
she drags a creeper over
to cover holes in the roof.
The flowers the lady picks
are not for her hair,
and the handfuls of cypress
are a bitter stay against hunger.
Her pretty blue sleeves
are too thin for the cold;
as evening falls
she leans on the tall bamboo.

Su Shi (1036-1101), also known as Su Dongpo was an avid student of Buddhist teachings. He was quick-witted and humorous; as a Zen Buddhism follower he was very serious and self-disciplined. He often discussed buddhism with his good friend, Zen Master Foyin. The two lived across the river from one another.

Following is an interesting and famous story about him and Zen Master Foyin.

One day, Su Dongpo felt inspired and wrote the following poem:

I bow my head to the heaven within heaven
Hairline rays illuminating the universe
The eight winds cannot move me
Sitting still upon the purple golden lotus

The “eight winds” in the poem referred to praise, ridicule, honor, disgrace, gain, loss, pleasure and misery - interpersonal forces of the material world that drive and influence the hearts of men. Su Dongpo was saying that he has attained a higher level of spirituality, where these forces no longer affect him.

Impressed by himself, Su Dongpo sent a servant to hand-carry this poem to Foyin. He was sure that his friend would be equally impressed. When Foyin read the poem, he immediately saw that it was both a tribute to the Buddha and a declaration of spiritual refinement. Smiling, the Zen Master wrote “fart” on the manuscript and had it returned to Su Dongpo.

Su Dongpo was expecting compliments and a seal of approval. When he saw “fart” written on the manuscript, he was shocked . He burst into anger: “How dare he insult me like this? Why that lousy old monk! He’s got a lot of explaining to do!”

Full of indignation, he rushed out of his house and ordered a boat to ferry him to the other shore as quickly as possible. He wanted to find Foyin and demand an apology. However, Foyin’s door closed. On the door was a piece of paper, for Su Dongpo. The paper had following two lines:

The eight winds cannot move me
One fart blows me across the river

This stopped Su Dongpo cold. Foyin had anticipated this hot-headed visit. Su Dongpo’s anger suddenly drained away as he understood his friend’s meaning. If he really was a man of spiritual refinement,
completely unaffected by the eight winds, then how could he be so easily provoked?

With a few strokes of the pen and minimal effort, Foyin showed that Su Dongpo was in fact not as spiritually advanced as he claimed to be. Ashamed but wiser, Su Dongpo departed quietly.

This event proved to be a turning point in Su Dongpo’s spiritual development. From that point on, he became a man of humility, and not merely someone who boasted of possessing the virtue.

Once upon a time
I was beautiful and seductive,
Wavering to and fro in
ur orchid scented bedroom.
You and me together tangled
In our incense filled gauze
BEd curtains. I trembled,
Held in your hands. You carried
Me in your heart wherever
You went. Suddenly
A bullet struck down the female
Mandarin duck. The music
Of the jade zither was forgotten.
The phoenixes were driven apart.

I sit alone in a room
Filled with Spring, and you are off
Making love with someone else,
Happy as two fish in the water.

That insufferable little bitch
With her coy tricks!
She'd better not forget--
This old witch can still
Make a furious scene!

that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;

to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.

Clouds drifting the whole day;
a traveler traveling who never arrives.

Three nights you have been in my dreams;
as your friend, I knew your mind.

You say your return is always harrowing;
your coming, a hard coming;

Rivers, lakes, so many waves;
in your boat you fear overturning.

Going out the door, you scratch your white head
as if the purpose of your whole life was ruined,

The rich and high positioned fill the Capital,
while you, alone, are careworn and dejected.

Who says the net of heaven is cast wide?
Growing older, you only grow more preyed upon.

One thousand autumns, ten thousand years of fame,
are nothing after death.

He's taking the dryer apart and cleaning out all the icky stuff. He did manage to pull out about $3.00!

Very nice in here tonight. ^_^

Just wanted to pop in and say goodnight and sweet dreams to you and Solly and any Anons that might be lurking about.

NIGHT!

XOXO

As autumn mountains
Tinged with scarlet were you, maiden,
A pliable bamboo,
Supply bending, lady,
Of what
Were you thinking?
A rope of hemp
Should stretch your life long;
The dew
Falls with the morning
And with the evening
Vanishes, 'tis said;
The mist
Rises with the evening
And with the morn
Is lost, 'tis said;
As a catalpa bow,
The rumours, I, too, heard them, and
Saw you only briefly.
How sad:
As folded linen,
Pillowed on your arm,
A well-honed sword,
His body by yours in sleep,
As young grass,
Is your husband.
How lonely must he be ?
With thoughts of you will he sleep,
Grieving;
Fondly feeling,
It was not your time,
And you are gone, oh lady,
As is the morning dew,
As is the evening mist.

By the sea in Iwami,
On the shore at Tsuno,
There is no beach,
For folk to see;
No shallow water,
For folk to see;
Yet even so,
Though there be no beach;
Yet even so,
Though there be no shallow water:
On the whale hunting
Seashore
At Nikitazu,
On the rocky shoreline,
The blue, blue
Jeweled seaweed, just offshore,
With the wings of morning,
Will the wind bring closer;
With the wings of dusk,
Will the waves draw closer;
And with the waves,
Moving forth and back,
As the jeweled seaweed,
My darling, once cuddled close,
Like frosted dewdrops
Fallen, left behind, so
On this road
With its eighty turnings
A myriad times
Have I turned my head, but
Gradually more
Distant is my home;
Gradually, higher
Mountains too, have I passed through:
She, as summer grass,
Down drooping,
Remembering:
That I might see my darling’s gateposts,
Tremble, oh ye mountains!
